Part 7: The Uruk-hai

The Orcs that attached the Fellowship at Amon Hen captured several members of the Company and are carrying them to Isengard. Aragorn and his companions decide to chase the Uruk-hai in an effort to rescue their friends. This has to be done before they escape into the forest of Fangorn. If the Orcs reach its borders, they will escape into the woods, taking their captives with them and there will be no chance to track them there.

The Game

Having a 4-sphere deck with restrictions to its cards due to the contract faces me with new challenges. I do have to keep 10 lore cards, but are not able to play them (more or less). Allies can be played with The Storm Comes. It would be nice to get an unique lore ally on the table and attach a Sword-Thain. This is by far not thematic here, but its a way to get green resources. With a lot of extra questing and the need for 3 specific cards, which are worth at least 6 resources, it is a long way though. Also, A Good Harvest can be used to play off-sphere. I take the two The Shirefolks out of my deck for these – The Shirefolk will be useless in my deck anyways: Aragorn will be there.

I had to play this quest twice.

The campaign card removes a lot burdens from my encounter deck.

The first game was kind of educational. Even with a mulligan, I was not able to get any good starting cards at hands. Astonishingly, I survived 5 rounds, but got humiliated through archery damage and had to engage an enemy, which I couldn’t defend. Lessons learned: a healer seems to be needed.

First things first; the second game lasted 25 minutes and was a success within 9 rounds. Sadly, my pursuit value was above 25. And I had to spend Three Golden Hairs. Anyhow, with the mulligan I still had no unique lore ally, no The Storm Comes, no Sword-Thain. But I had a healer, A Good Harvest, a Staff of Lebethron and a Red Book of Westmarch. I decided to play the latter three to have some protection and a good start for willpower. Almost the whole game, I had one or two enemies engaged, so thanks to Tom Cotton I could play my beloved lore ally each round. The second A Good Harvest was used to play Warden of Healing. All in all I had more resources than I could spend (also due to Resourceful). I could play two allies each round, which gave me high willpower to win the game.
